*** POSTPONED *** Second International Wholebody Focusing Retreat

July 01 - 06, 2020

Event

  • "...invites the power of consciousness
to awaken the inner wisdom of the living body."

NOTE: Due to travel and meeting concerns resulting from the Coronavirus, this Retreat has been postponed.

Focusing Initiatives International is excited to announce the second International Wholebody Focusing Retreat, from July 1-6, 2020. We will be bringing together Wholebody Focusers from around the globe to meet each other in our own “we” space, a co-created Wholebody Focusing and Heartfelt Conversation event.

One of the goals of the retreat is to give the worldwide Wholebody Focusing community an opportunity to experience each other and to make lasting connections.  By focusing, playing, sharing meals, and creating what is wanting together, those lasting connections may emerge.

This is a chance to connect, share our practice, and help build a community of interconnected Wholebody Focusers, through a combination of small group Focusing and Heartfelt Conversation sessions facilitated by Wholebody Focusing Professionals, round table discussions to strengthen our practice, and whole group attunements. We will ensure that there is plenty of time and space to enjoy being together in a more heartfelt leisurely manner.

We have chosen a beautiful location for our this gathering: Bethlehem Centre, near the town of Nanaimo on Vancouver Island.  It was important to find a place in nature, in the presence of trees and water, supporting and encouraging us to be in Grounded Presence. Another consideration was making sure the retreat was financially affordable and geographically accessible to Focusers coming from many different directions.

The program for each day will emerge from the curiosity, longings, and creativity of the participants. The possibilities include but are not limited to: small group focusing, partnerships, learning groups, group sharing, community building, using art or writing for expression, movement practices, walking, swimming in the lake, playing games, skills-sharing, singing, music, dancing, and anything else we co-create as a group. We will have Wholebody Focusing activities to aid in identifying what might be wanting.

There will be an area with poster boards and markers for you to name what you are wanting/are willing to offer, in order to facilitate finding others who want to share this with you. We will also have experienced focusers who will work with those who prefer more structure. Each day there will be a menu of options to choose from – including the option of not choosing – so that you can create your own unique experience.

Please bring along any useful accessories connected to what you would like to share (art supplies, musical instruments, games) and come prepared to help with creating what you would like to experience. If there is something specific you would like to share and need some support, please let Melinda know at melinda@focusinginternational.org.

Bethlehem Centre, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

The Bethlehem Centre, a non-denominational spiritual retreat centre, is located on Vancouver Island near the town of Nanaimo. Nature abounds – whether you prefer quiet reflection on a garden bench, a birding walk along ponds and forested paths, or a vigorous lake swim. July on Vancouver Island is usually sunny with cooling ocean breezes.

Situated in a wooded acreage in Nanaimo, Bethlehem Centre looks out over Westwood Lake against the backdrop of Mt. Benson. There is a well-groomed path around the lake, swimming for those who like a morning dip, and trails up Mt. Benson for the more adventurous.

There is also a chapel, library, and a garden labyrinth that hosts one of the few Peace Poles on Vancouver Island.

Meals feature fruits and vegetables grown on-site, and special dietary (including gluten- and dairy-free and vegetarian) are accommodated.

How to get to Nanaimo  and Bethlehem Centre

1. By air (option a):

Buy a ticket from your departure point to Vancouver Island Airport (YCD) just outside Nanaimo. This requires a stopover in Vancouver or Calgary. Depending on what kind of deal you get online or from a travel agent, this is likely a reasonably affordable option.

By air (option b):

Buy a ticket from your departure point to Vancouver International Airport (YVR). Once you arrive at YVR take a complimentary shuttle to the adjacent Harbour Air Seaplane terminal and get a ticket to Nanaimo. The floatplane flight to Nanaimo will take just 20 minutes, and floatplanes depart practically every hour during daylight hours. This is the more enjoyable of the two flight options with great views of the Georgia Strait and its islands. It is also carbon-neutral. The plans are small though so can be a rough ride in windy weather. There is no need to book tickets in advance. This is a very flexible option with no worries about making your connection: you just show up at the terminal and buy a ticket. Depending on the pricing level you choose, this option may end up more expensive or at par with a regular airline ticket.

2. By air and ferry:

Fly into Vancouver International Airport and take a cab to the BC Ferries terminal at Tsawwassen. Buy a ferry ticket to Nanaimo (Departure Bay) as a foot passenger. Ferries depart every 2.5 hours and the sailing takes 2 hours. It’s a beautiful scenic experience and also the most affordable of the three options.

3. By road and ferry (from Washington State, or if you’re spending time in Victoria first:

(a) driving: Take a WSDOT ferry from Anacortes to Sidney (near Victoria) OR a Black Ball ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria Harbour. From there take Canada Highway 1 to Nanaimo. These options are affordable; however, depending on the ferry schedules you may have to spend a night in Victoria.

(b) as a foot passenger: Take the Seattle clipper to Victoria and then a Vancouver Island Connector motor coach to Nanaimo. There are several motor coach services a day. This option is very affordable.

Depending on schedules, we may be able to pick people up at the airport, at Departure Bay or at the motor coach terminal. In any event, it’s only a short cab ride from these points to Bethlehem.
