Whether you’re just beginning or deepening your expertise, these programs will equip you with the skills to foster personal resilience and community well-being. The courses are to be taken in sequence.

The breath of mental health support is identified by the initials MHPSS (standing for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support). It is such a common acronym that one rarely sees it spelled out. Our work highlights the importance of psychosocial support (PSS), which is foundational to all mental health services and Focusing is a solid base for all aspects of this work.

This two-year program is designed to provide in-depth training in Focusing techniques, equipping participants with the tools to support professional growth and personal and community healing. The curriculum is divided into three foundational classes in 2025 and  culminating in a training of trainers/certification course in 2026.

One can sign up for Psychological First Aid (PFA) only by clicking here, the first year  only by clicking here, or for the full 2-year package. Because each class builds on the one before it, we won’t admit new participants after the PFA class.

And, as with all programs at Focusing Initiatives International, we are happy to discuss payment plans and scholarships.

Year 1 (2026 Courses):

  • Psychological First Aid (PFA): Learn deep listening and peer-based support techniques to help individuals and communities in crisis. This is a 5 week course. Select the start date that works best for you. Each class runs for 2.5 hours and meets weekly from 8AM Pacific time.
    • January 8, 2026
    • February 7, 2026
    • March 5, 2026
  • Psychosocial Support (PSS): Build on PFA skills to facilitate wellness through culturally sensitive approaches that promote local agency and problem-solving. This is a 9 week course beginning on May 7, 2026. Each class runs for 2.5 hours and meets weekly from 8AM Pacific time.
  • Focusing in Community (FIC): Strengthen Focusing as both a personal and community-based practice. This is an 11 week course beginning on September 10, 2026. Each class runs for 2.5 hours and meets weekly from 8AM Pacific time.

Year 2 (2027 Certification / Training of Trainers Course):

  • Community Wellness Focusing Professional Certification: Apply Focusing skills in diverse contexts. Participants will develop a Focusing Project—a real-world application of Focusing principles tailored to their community or professional practice. This class meets every other week starting on January 7, 2027 (with June-August free to work on your project).

Each step in this journey strengthens the capacity to foster connection, healing, and agency within oneself and the broader community. Are you ready to take the next step?
